Description
The Tulsi Jaap Mala, crafted from the sacred Tulsi (Holy Basil) plant, is one of the most spiritually revered items in Hinduism. Deeply associated with devotion to Lord Vishnu and his avatars like Lord Krishna and Lord Rama, it serves as a powerful tool for japa (mantra chanting), meditation, and spiritual connection.
Hindu scriptures, especially the Padma Purana, Skanda Purana and Bhagavata Purana, equate Tulsi to the incarnation of the goddess Vrinda Devi, who remains Lord Vishnu’s eternal partner. Using a Tulsi Mala in spiritual practices is believed to attract divine blessings, remove sins, and purify one’s karma. The use of this mala for chanting makes a protective boundary and soothes the mind, which helps the individual concentrate on spiritual progress.
A traditional Tulsi Mala contains 108+1 beads, with the 109th bead—called the Meru or Guru bead—used as a marker rather than for counting. Juda has beads that are hand-cut from Tulsi stems and are smooth, polished, then strung on red, yellow or white threads, usually made from cotton, silk or nylon. Pool filter size can be 4 mm to 10 mm if that works for you, and the lengths typically go from 24 inches to 36 inches.
For chanting mantras, this mala is very suitable:
- Hare Krishna Chant
- Vishnu Sahasranama
- Gayatri Mantra or mantras to one’s chosen deity
- Mental, Physical, & Spiritual Benefits
- Enhances devotion (bhakti) and love for the Divine
- Protects a person both spiritually and from negative energies
- Makes it easier to feel at peace mentally, focused and more clear-headed
- Cleanses both the body, mind and the soul
- Gives healing and vibrational benefits because of Tulsi’s sacred nature
